Doing it wrong choreography
If you do a cover and showcase small parts of your own while highlighting the point parts of the original choreography, it’s all fine. TL DR I would absolutely love more faithful girl choreo covers but I think the righteous anger over the second gen covers has caused fans to over correct and scare off most boys from even trying because the risk of bringing a hate storm on yourself even doing it with a pure heart to the best of your abilities is too high to risk. Because of this I can see why most male idols chose to go for a modified choreo to which people huff why couldn't they do the real thing but at least are not accused of mocking the girl group.įemale covers of male groups do not seem to get the same treatment from fans if the cover sucks, the cover sucks but large groups do not claim they are mocking the male group or send them endless hate for not having a perfect arm angle or slight modifications to the choreo. I am not sure there is literally anything that could satisfy these fans and these fans are LOUD.
Leaving aside the clearly terrible cross dressing over the top covers which thankfully seem to have stayed in the 2nd/very early 3rd gen, the amount of times that I have seen stans outraged that the male idol did not get the exact angle of the hip swing correct and accuse them of mocking (when from what I can tell was an entirely in good faith cover) is not low.
I think male idols are in a tough place covering girl groups just from what I have seen (which admittedly could be a skewed sample but is a decently big sample) there are very few male covers that girl group stans actually like.
